Hometown Jazz.
Iconic jazzman Dizzy Gillespie's hometown of Cheraw, SC hosts the South Carolina Jazz Festival Oct. 14-16. The sultry sounds will move your soul as more than 20 of the hottest cats in the Carolinas lay down the funk, including the Charlton Singleton Quartet and the Kat Williams Trio. There's a "bebop" parade, a Madonnari-Southern style chalk competition, kids' activities and more.

The ballet shows its teeth.
The Halloween phenomenon and theatrical "must see," Dracula: Ballet With A Bite, returns to the Columbia City Ballet Oct. 27-29. The Count and his Brides of Darkness are out for blood with new choreography and costumes. This cutting-edge production is realized in dramatic fashion with stunning special effects and a pulsating rock/jazz musical score.

A change in the seasons.
MOMIX brings its breathtaking fantasy piece Botanica to Greenville's Peace Center Oct. 8-9 and to Charleston's Gaillard Auditorium Oct. 22. Dancer-illusionists explore the seasons through surrealistic images, light, shadow and the human form. Vivid costumes and larger-than-life puppets and props add to the visual euphoria. It's a mind-blowing experience that will captivate the imagination.
