Easy Sautéed Summer Squash

This simple, flavorful summer squash sauté is a great way to enjoy fresh summer squash. This is a wonderful and easy side dish to serve with a grilled steak, fish, or chicken meal, along with rice, baked potato, or another side vegetable or salad. Feel free to use either yellow summer squash or zucchini in this easy recipe.

Mama's Cajun Stuffed Bell Peppers

This recipe comes from Terri's great grandmother's handwritten recipe. She writes, "Cook the meat until it wants to start flying." It's a flavorful combination of beef and pork, tomato, rice, and seasonings, stuffed into bell peppers and baked to perfection.

Classic Pickled Beets

These delicious pickled beets go well with just about any meal, any season. This recipe is a basic recipe for pickled beets, and it's easily doubled to make a larger batch.

Chocolate Frozen Yogurt

Yogurt gives this delicious ice cream a tangy taste, and the low fat evaporated milk keeps it relatively light.

First look at rare textiles.
The Florence Museum presents The Van Dam Collection of Rare Textiles, featuring pieces from West Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East. The collection, donated by a long-time private collector, includes functional, ritual and extravagant textiles that have never been exhibited publicly. Also on display are several rare articles from West Africa. The exhibition runs through Aug. 21. Click here to learn more.

Mozart soothes the South.
Indulge your love of classical music with Mozart In The South Festival Sept. 15-18. Chamber Music Charleston kicks off events with a concert at the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul and concludes with a rousing performance at Middleton Place. Families will enjoy children's activities as well as student and professional performances during Little Mozart Circus. An elegant Chamber Music Soiree rounds out the proceedings. Learn more.

An intimate look at Rembrandt.
The Columbia Museum of Art presents the work of one of the most celebrated artists in history. Rembrandt: From Sacred to Profane showcases examples from the artist's traditional subjects, ranging from the famous Christ Healing the Sick to lesser-known images such as Beggar with a Stick. A History of Tattooing in South Carolina examines the diverse cultural reactions to this art form. The exhibition runs through Aug. 18 at the Pickens County Museum of Art and History.

Greenville's Saturday Local Art Market (SLAM!) features handmade art from local artists including paintings, photography, ceramics, clothing and more. Open Saturdays through Oct. 29.

Beat the heat summer treats.
It's that time of year when food festivals throughout the state will be inundated with a bounty of fresh, homegrown watermelons and cantaloupes. It's South Carolina tradition to keep cool with summertime favorites like cantaloupe mousse and all-natural watermelon popsicles. Or unwind porch-side, sipping watermelon margaritas. It ain't tea if it ain't sweet.
Around here, folks take great pride in preparing their sweet tea. Blend in Certified South Carolina peaches and enjoy the light, refreshing taste that was made for summer afternoons. For some of the best, visit Charleston Tea Plantation, America's only tea garden, and savor some of their homegrown peach-flavored tea. Or for something with a little more kick, try South Carolina's own Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka.

The Upstate's blue cheese tradition.
Give your summer salads, sandwiches and dips a daring dash of Clemson Blue Cheese. The bold-flavored delight is aged in Newman Hall at Clemson University and has been an Upstate tradition for generations. Originally it was cured in Stumphouse Tunnel and today guests are invited to tour the tunnel. Get it by the wedge, wheel or crumbled, online or at '55 Exchange, and you'll have a delicious complement to any summer dish.
