For others, the mere thought of being 30,000 feet in the air may be the most overwhelming stressor.
As an anxious traveler who likes to close my eyes to unwind, I always bring my lime green Nodpod Weighted Sleep Mask to wear once I'm comfortably seated. At 9 ounces, I don't feel the mask adds any substantial weight to my carry-on bag. The Nodpod is composed of four round, weighted pods filled with microbeads that apply the perfect amount of pressure to my eyes. And for temperature regulation, the Nodpod is made of two different fabrics. One side is jersey cotton while the other is microfiber. I prefer a cool feel, so I typically place the jersey cotton on top of my eyes.
Unlike many sleeping masks, the Nodpod is free of elastic or velcro, so the mask doesn't get caught in my hair or feel too tight around my head. Instead, there are straps that you can tie together. There's also a hole through which one strap can be threaded through the other, but I find that to be a bit difficult to do as the hole is quite small and can be hard to locate once the mask is on my face already.
Wearing the Nodpod, I notice a decrease in any facial tension and the stress I've felt from a day of traveling slowly melts away. It's also great at blocking out any light, which I enjoy as someone who prefers total darkness to doze off. A bonus? It's machine-washable, so I can clean the Nodpod of any airport or plane grime, which is important in the face of COVID-19.
