- How to Start Rucking
- Ways to Beat Workout Slumps
| | | Spartans,
Last week, I shared my goals for 2025, and asked you, the Hard Way community, to write-in with yours. You delivered.
From better health to more resilience, this community has ambitious plans for 2025. Remember, the first step to achieving anything is to create your "why" — the reason behind your goal that will keep you going when things inevitably get tough. And if you've been slacking off on your resolutions, identifying your "why" is the best way to re-commit.
I've selected a handful of goals you've resolved to work on this year. I hope these will inspire the Hard Way community to push each other on towards greatness. | | | For my business, grow 15-20%. Take care of my team. Take care of our customers. | - Kevin B. | | | | | My goal this year is to complete my first Beast in Mont-Tremblant, and then the Sprint and Super the same weekend in Ottawa, completing a calendar year Trifecta. | - Ivo M. | | | | | I want to get healthy. My goal is to eliminate processed foods for 30 days in February. | - Kim L. | | | | | Run a Trifecta this year. Run 1000 km and 200 of them with my 10 year old son. Read one book per month and do 10,000 burpees. | - Manuel M. | | | | | Read 50 books this year. | - Jess J. | | | | | My dad and I have a goal to restore an old car in 2025. I'm looking forward to improving quality time with my family. | - Neil A. | | | | | Get a promotion and prove my leadership skills at work. | - Sarah M. | | | | |
Here's to The Hard Way,
Joe | | 5 Rules of Rucking | Watch your strength skyrocket with this one underrated piece of equipment.
Rucking—the practice of exercising while wearing a weighted vest—is a proven way to build strength, endurance, and discipline. Put on one while walking, running, or doing strength exercises. To get the most out of your vest, follow these five rules. - Test Yourself
Make sure you can perform at least 10 quality reps of bodyweight exercises like squats or push-ups before strapping on a vest. - Choose the Right Vest
Adjustable vests are a great option, as you can load up more weight as you progress. - Run With Caution
Using a vest puts more stress on your joints. If you want to use your vest for cardio workouts, start with walking, then short runs with ample rest between sessions. - Increase Volume Before Weight
Before increasing your load, add more sets or reps with your current resistance. - Listen to Your Body
Start with 5% to 10% of your body weight and go from there. Never sacrifice form for more resistance. | | You Ask, Joe Answers | Q: Hey Joe, I've recently hit a plateau in my fitness routine and feel like I'm not improving anymore. How can I push past this? - Alex M.
A: Hey Alex, hitting a plateau is a sign that your body has adapted to your current challenges – which is actually a win. Now, it's time to shake things up. Consider incorporating completely new movements or training methods, like hill sprints or kettlebell circuits, to challenge muscles in new ways. Remember that plateaus are temporary. Your willingness to adapt is what will push you forward.
Aroo!
