Special: Is Trump Innocent or Guilty?
News Alert
President Trump signed a memorandum to suspend the security clearances of employees at Covington & Burling, a law firm that supported former special counsel Jack Smith. The firm had provided pro bono legal services to Smith, whose investigations led to criminal charges against Trump. This action reflects Trump's broader strategy to target individuals and entities involved in these legal pursuits since his return to office. The announcement was made by White House staff secretary Will Scharf, who indicated that this suspension is part of holding those responsible accountable. Trump humorously referred to the order as the “Deranged Jack Smith signing,” underscoring his ongoing criticism of Smith. This move comes after the Justice Department in January dismissed several prosecutors involved in cases against Trump, citing a conflict of trust. These prosecutors were part of investigations into Trump’s alleged election interference and the mishandling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, both spearheaded by Smith but not concluded before Trump’s re-election.
