How does a tree change over 10 years? The better question might be, how does it stay the same? Photographer Yvan Bédard spent a decade capturing the same elm in Neuville, Canada, starting in 2014 when he snapped a pic of the tree in front of a bright full moon. "In the following years, I went back to this tree to make other photographs because I liked its direction toward the rising sun and weather conditions such as morning fog," he told PetaPixel. "After a few years, I thought about the possibility of making a series, using this elm as a witness of local natural events." See some of his tree photos from over the years, with backdrops including snow, fall foliage, and the northern lights.

Canada Is Home to the World's Largest Solar Panel Mural
Mitrex
The building pictured above might stop you in your tracks for its colorful tiles and striking artwork, but what you won't pick up on at a glance is its status as the Guinness World Record holder for the world's largest solar panel mural. Located in Edmonton, Canada, this 12-story residential structure has been retrofitted with 34,500 square feet of building-integrated photovoltaic panels, resulting in an annual reduction of about 150 tons of carbon emissions. Starting from year five, the solar generation is projected to save owners and residents a total of around $80,000 per year, per Good Good Good. Beyond cutting carbon and costs, the building is also significant for what it adds to the community: The 85-foot-tall mural, titled "The Land We Share," was designed by Indigenous artist Lance Cardinal. It honors First Nations and Chinese cultures via depictions of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac living in harmony with the seven animals that symbolize the Cree sacred grandfather teachings. "The different teachings and ideals represented by these 19 animals help us see the world in a better way, to be respectful of each other and to understand each other's differences, and, of course, to take care of Mother Earth," Cardinal shared in an Instagram video. See the building before and after the redesign.

Meet the Founder Making Plastic Obsolete
The world produces 450 million metric tons of plastic waste each year. Microplastics are seeping into our oceans and food. They even show up in our bodies. So you can imagine how revolutionary a new kind of plastic that completely dissolves in water would be. Thatʼs what CEO Manuel Rendon created with Timeplast. The former PepsiCo exec spent a decade perfecting a water-soluble, time-programmable plastic that vanishes without harming the environment. It can potentially disrupt the entire $1.3 trillion plastics industry, from water bottles to packaging — and even materials beyond plastic. The company has already seen over 1,500 paying customers and 6,000% revenue growth in a single month. That's why more than 8,000 investors are already here. Invest in Timeplast before midnight tomorrow, July 31.

The Rankings Are in: The Best Baseball Players of All Time, According to Era-Adjusted Data
Bettmann/Getty Images
Who are the best baseball players of all time? This question may be a surefire way to get into a heated conversation at the dinner table, but a recent study is offering data-driven answers — with no hometown bias. Using a new statistical framework called Full House Modeling, the researchers analyzed the performance of pro baseball players across different eras based on adjusted player metrics. This method takes into account "the achievements of Major League Baseball players within a given season and the size of the MLB talent pool from which a player came," the team explained in the study. As a result, many players from more recent decades rose to the top of the rankings, given that the sport has become increasingly competitive over time. After crunching the adjusted numbers, the study found that Barry Bonds and Willie Mays outrank some oft-cited top hitters, like Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron. Over on the mound, Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, and Randy Johnson were found to be the best era-adjusted pitchers of all time. Let the debating begin.

Ben & Jerry's Is Churning Ice Cream Waste Into Energy
Ben & Jerry's
In case you needed another reason to love your favorite pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream (cough cough, Half Baked), the sweet treat company is partnering with PurposeEnergy to recycle its food waste into renewable energy. Here's the scoop: At a facility in St. Albans, Vermont, leftover ice cream and other ingredients go into an anaerobic digester, where microbes digest the waste and generate methane gas, which is then captured and converted into an energy source. This energy powers the facility and contributes an estimated 8.75 million kilowatt hours to the Vermont grid annually, in addition to diverting leftovers from landfills, lowering phosphorus pollution, and centralizing food waste management. It's a win for the planet without changing a thing about the ice cream recipes we all know and love. "It's a model of industrial symbiosis — turning food production waste into clean energy, reducing emissions, and supporting local economies," Erik Lallum, chief development officer of PurposeEnergy, said in a statement. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how the process works.
