Here's what sets our awards apart: After undergoing rigorous review by our data engineers, potential winners are individually evaluated by our in-house editorial team. We start with more than 60,000 candidates each year, and fewer than 2 percent of venues ultimately pass my team's rigorous testing and standards. This year's honorees range from iconic institutions like Adare Manor to natural marvels like Puerto Rico's El Yunque National Forest and quirky boutiques like Little Rock, Arkansas' Fermentables & Homegrown Hobbies.
We've also brought back our unique "Industry Leaders" category, new in 2020, which spotlights those businesses and innovations promising a bright future for travel. I personally jumped at the chance to write about the innovations and safety measures that Viking Cruises took as they restarted their operations this year, while other winners include Send Chinatown Love, Colorado-based gear company Big Agnes, and the advent of the digital nomad visa.
