THIS is my go-to apple pie recipe every holiday season. THIS is the brownie recipe my mom makes for every special occasion. THIS is the mac n' cheese recipe I know by heart. These are the visions that dance across my mind when I think of iconic—right alongside the legendary Anthony Bourdain and Ina Garten drinking a proper happy-hour martini.

In our newest YouTube series, "It's Elementary," we take classic recipes and break them down to their core elements—because once you know the fundamentals, it's all, well … elementary.

In our debut episode, you'll join me as I geek out over all things apple pie. What are the best apple varieties for baking? Should you use shortening or all butter in your crust? How can you prevent a watery filling or a soggy bottom? These are just some of the hard-hitting questions I set out to answer.

Now, I'll let you in on a not-so-little secret: Filming this series felt like that big rainbow after a dark storm. Like many other companies, we moved offices mid-pandemic. So not only was this our team's first return to a test kitchen, it was the first time we turned on the ovens at our new space.

But it was more than that. For me, it was the first time I got to speak directly to our readers, aka YOU. Hi! This series reignited the love I feel for cooking and the creative juices that flow when I pick up a whisk. So not only does this series showcase the foundation of cooking, it also expresses the foundations of who I am.
