Reader, For 60 years, Americans have worked hard to follow the advice of the American Heart Association. Maybe you're one of them…
On this advice, you've given up eating your favorite foods, jogged for mile after mile, and swallowed hundreds of doses of dangerous heart drugs.
To no avail – because this 60-year-old advice is just plain wrong.
Today, I want to show you how you can do so much better. My patient was told that his heart condition made flying a plane impossible. But after following my Ageless Heart protocol, today he's flying high. | Let's start with a patient of mine. His name is Dan. And before he came to me, he was seeing one of the top cardiologists in the area.
Dan had been diagnosed with coronary artery disease, leading to congestive heart failure.
He was taking four prescription medications. And he had quintuple bypass surgery on his heart. This left him with five stents in his heart artery.
But he wasn't getting any better.
In fact, this former karate master was now constantly fatigued. And despite his best efforts, he gained 60 pounds.
His goal for his retirement was learning how to fly airplanes. But he had to put his dream on hold.
His doctors told him his heart condition made it impossible for him to pilot a plane...
Six months later, Dan is flying high.
He received his pilot's license. He's off ALL his medications and shed 30 pounds. His C-reactive protein — a blood marker for inflammation and a key indicator of heart disease — went from a dangerous 7.2 to a healthy 3.5.
Dan couldn't get better following conventional medicine's heart disease treatment. The problem is not caused by a deficiency of drugs.
But I have discovered a way to change that using what I call my Ageless Heart protocol.
At my practice, we help patients restore an ageless heart naturally. If you're a long-term reader, you know I always start with "prescribing" CoQ10.
Decades of research show up to 75% of patients with heart disease have low CoQ10.1
But supplementing with CoQ10 can bring immediate, life-saving benefits.
Studies show that taking CoQ10 daily reduces arrhythmias, increases left ventricular function (a critical part of your heart's pumping ability), and reduces the death rate from repeat heart attacks by as much as 50%.2,3,4
I recommend healthy patients take 50 mg of ubiquinol CoQ10 every day. This form is eight times more absorbable than conventional CoQ10.
Since statins lower CoQ10 by up to 54%,5 boost your intake to 200 mg if you're still taking this drug.
If you have congestive heart failure, you can take up to 450 mg. 2 More Ways To Restore Your Ageless Heart Along with CoQ10, I recommend you increase your heart health with supplements that keep your arteries open and flowing freely. Here are two that I advise all my heart patients to take: - Acetyl L-Carnitine. This amino plays a crucial role in making energy in your cells. It transports fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they are burned for fuel. It also carries toxic waste out before it can do damage.
But as you age, carnitine levels drop. That's why you need acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC). Your body converts L-carnitine to ALC. Studies show when your mitochondria slow down, ALC can fire them up again. Studies also show ALC reverses the malfunction in mitochondria as you age.6
The best source of L-carnitine is grass-fed red meat. But you can also supplement. I suggest taking at least 500 mg of ALC every day on an empty stomach. Look for a formula with only L-carnitine and not D, L-carnitine. D-carnitine is synthetic.
- Vitamin K2. This is one of the best vitamins for heart health. One study of 4,800 people showed that high levels of vitamin K2 lowered the risk of coronary artery disease by 57%. It lowered calcium buildup in arteries by 52%. And it slashed the risk of death from any cause by 26%.7
The study also found that populations that have more vitamin K2 in their diets reduce their risk of dying from cardiovascular disease by 50% compared to those who had lower amounts. It showed that for every daily increase of 10 mcg of K2, the risk of coronary heart disease decreases by 9%.
I recommend up to 90 mcg a day to my patients. Because it's fat-soluble, take it with a meal to improve absorption.
