The historic Oasis at Death Valley has seen a lot of history.
Destination of the Day
Baltimore, Maryland
Baltimore is the largest city in Maryland, located in the north-central part of the state, near the Western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. It's about 40 miles north of Washington, D.C., and makes a great weekend getaway for people on the East Coast, especially New Yorkers, Philadelphians, and Bostonians. And if you're coming from D.C., it's great for a day trip.
Things to Do
Baltimore has several flagship attractions, including the National Aquarium, Fort McHenry, and a number of stellar art museums. Strolling the Inner Harbor is perfect on beautiful days, and from there, you can take a water taxi to places like Fell's Point, a charming historic waterfront neighborhood with great shops and restaurants. Or, catch a baseball game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, one of the country's best stadiums. Overwhelmed with options? We've put together a list of must-sees and the places worth checking out in this 48-hour itinerary for Charm City.
Where to Eat
Baltimore often gets lost in the long list of iconic Northeastern foodie destinations, like New York City, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and Boston, but ask any local and you'll see how closely the city's culture is linked to food. As the home of the nation's best crab cakes, several James Beard award-winning chefs, a Food Network famous cake shop, and original creations like Berger Cookies, Snowballs, and Natty Boh, Baltimore packs a lot of rich food history and diversity into a city of only 600,000 people. Whichever of Charm City's best restaurants you end up at, don't forget to sprinkle some locally made Old Bay seasoning on top of your dish.
Where to Stay
From high-end luxury hotels to charming inns, Baltimore has a wide array of accommodations to fit every style and budget. The big brands like Marriott, Hampton Inn, and Radisson are here, as well as higher-end options like Four Seasons, Kimpton, and Renaissance. For a bit more personality, book a room at one of the boutique hotels like the Sagamore Pendry, The Ivy Hotel, Hotel Indigo, or Hotel Revival.
Your Packing List

The Bay of Fires Conservation Area on Tasmania's northeast coast is fringed by crystal-clear water and white-sand beaches that have to be seen to be believed. Orange-stained rocks dot the coastline, creating a stark contrast between the sea and sky as wallabies, kangaroos, dolphins, and Tasmanian Devils roam freely throughout the region.
