Prosecutors said that the incident prompted the disgraced South Carolina lawyer to kill his wife, and the son responsible for the wreckage. The settlement by the insurer that paid the $500,000 policy Alex Murdaugh held on his boat ended the wrongful death lawsuit. Matt Gaetz's conduct, recently issued a subpoena to obtain documents related to a civil suit brought by a long-time friend of the Florida Congressman against several third parties. The subpoena was not previously reported. It requests all documents relating to Gaetz, as part of a suit brought last year by Gaetz's longtime friend and prominent Florida lobbyist Chris Dorworth.
