Uncommon artworks. Explore the world of folk and traditional art at the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia. Uncommon Folk features rarely exhibited items from the museum's collection, including Native American earthenware, turkey calls and decoys, shrimp nets, toys, wood carvings, whimsical whirligigs, and a flat-bottomed boat by Willie DeReef, the last of the Gullah boat makers. This remarkable exhibit runs through January 15, 2012.
History comes alive. Take a journey into the past to meet five people whose ideas changed America. From June 17-23, the Chautauqua Festival will feature 20 interactive theater performances throughout Greater Greenville and downtown Spartanburg. Ask questions and stand witness as history is brought to life by nationally known interpreters performing as John Muir, Albert Einstein, Frances Perkins, W.E.B. DuBois and Mark Twain.
