Inside Cosmic Baseball: A Glowing Game Played Under Black Lights That's Going Viral
Ryan M. Kelly/Getty Images
Tonight, a baseball field in Sugar Land, Texas, will look a bit like something out of the movie Tron. As the sun goes down, balls, bats, and jerseys will glow in the dark, and hues of neon pink and green will illuminate the field — all under black lights. "For us, it's how big of an environment can you create," Chris Martin, the creator and cofounder of the Cosmic Baseball league, told NBC News. "And how many memories can you bring when the black lights go on?" In its second season, the league has gone viral on social media and has a waitlist of nearly 400,000 fans eager to see the striking spectacle for themselves. And the future of the glowy games appears to be extra bright as the MLB has backed Cosmic Baseball, which could one day be played in famous stadiums across the country. For those who were lucky enough to score a coveted ticket to one of this summer's games, Martin assures the experience will be a hit: "I think the biggest piece for us is, how do you create a family environment? And everybody walks up to us at the end of the day and says, 'This is built for families.'" Watch the glowing game in action.

How a Wisconsin Teen With Social Anxiety Reconnected With Her Peers Through Art
Waunakee Community School District/ Facebook
We all want our friendships to flourish through different chapters of life. But for 18-year-old Molly Schafer, social anxiety had made it a challenge to form lasting bonds with her peers throughout high school. Still, the desire to restore some of those frayed relationships remained, so the Wisconsin senior decided to do something special: She picked up her paintbrush and started making colorful portraits of fellow students she was once connected to. "There was a connection there, at some point," Schafer told CBS News, adding: "I don't know, I really wanted to just talk to them again, or be seen again." So portrait by portrait, Schafer painted 44 of her classmates and then gifted them — dedicating a total of 600 hours to the project. No surprise, her hard work made quite the impact on the students. "The time and effort that she put into that is incredible," one said. The artistic endeavor also served as a reminder to Schafer that it's never too late to make an effort: "You can't go through life thinking that you don't have friends because they don't like you. Because that's not the case. … It's all in your head. You just have to try." Peruse the portraits.

Lobster Bisque, S'il Vous Plaît? French Astronaut to Get a Taste of Fine Dining in Orbit
European Space Agency
A French astronaut has scored a fine dining reservation that's out of this world, literally. When Sophie Adenot travels to the International Space Station next year, she will swap some of her regular freeze-dried food and canned meals for a delectable selection of French cuisine made by an award-winning chef. The full menu from Anne-Sophie Pic — the world's most Michelin-starred female chef — features four starters, two main courses, and two desserts. Some of the culinary delights include "foie gras cream on toasted brioche" and "lobster bisque with crab and caraway." While these are a far cry from typical astronaut food, the delicacies will be specially prepared to meet the strict requirements of the ISS. For example, food must be crumb-free and lightweight, and it needs to keep for at least 24 months. "Cooking for space is an exhilarating challenge," Pic told the European Space Agency. Not only do the bonus spreads ignite the tastebuds, but they also boost astronauts' well-being and help them bond with fellow crew members. And when you're far, far from home, a few tasty bites can go a long way: "[Pic's] cuisine signature is deeply influenced by the terroir," Adenot said. "This is important to me because I grew up in the countryside, and it will remind me of my roots." Bon appetit, Adenot!

Inspiring Story
Full circle moment
Back in 2017, Sandie Gillard rescued a magpie in Western Australia that was found on the ground and unable to fly after a fall, and she named the bird Jellybean. Three years later, the roles reversed: After 68-year-old Gillard fell from a second-story window, Jellybean helped bring her back to consciousness by gently tapping on her forehead, giving her a chance to call for help. "I woke up to this little sound of purring … and something tapping me on the forehead," Gillard said of the tender moment, noting that she likely wouldn't be here today if it weren't for Jellybean.
