Today in America
The House passed legislation implementing the debt ceiling agreement negotiated between President Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
The bill received bipartisan support, with Republicans and Democrats backing it. Democrats played a key role in ensuring its passage.
The bill now heads to the Senate for a vote. If not approved, the U.S. government is at risk of running out of funds by June 5. The final agreement suspends the debt limit until Jan. 1, 2025, while also cutting non-defense spending and making adjustments to the IRS.
Some conservative Republicans expressed opposition to the deal, citing concerns about spending cuts and defense budget increases.
