If you're interested in gothic architecture, a visit to York Minister is an absolute must. Built around the seventh century, this cathedral features beautiful stained glass and historic (and slightly unnerving) underground crypts. The top of the tower is an excellent spot for amazing city and countryside views—you'll just have to make it up the 275 steps to get there.
